Where the Republican war on higher education completely unravels.

Even before the embarrassing of the presidents of MIT, Harvard and UPenn on anti-Semitism in December, Republican leaders 鈥 particularly those representing the least educated voters 鈥 have been assailing American universities, dragging them into conservatives鈥 latest culture wars.
In , the Republican auditor of Mississippi 鈥 the -most uneducated state 鈥 called several social science and humanities degree programs at state universities 鈥渋ndoctrination factories.鈥 Among the 鈥済arbage fields鈥 in that audit were anthropology, sociology and 鈥 of course 鈥 African American studies.
The same month, in West Virginia 鈥 the聽聽educated state 鈥斅犔共曰逄爁aculty positions were eliminated at West Virginia University, whose budget was cut聽聽between 2013 and 2022 by its Republican-dominated legislature. One third of WVU鈥檚 education department faculty was聽聽along with its entire world language department. The university鈥檚 board also proposed cutting its graduate programs in mathematics.
